With Judd Apatow serving as producer and featuring the likes of Jason Segel, James Franco and Seth Rogen, Freaks And Geeks should have been a hit. 1999 was a different time though and the cast were nowhere near as famous as they are now. Although 18 episodes of the show were filmed, only 12 were aired before NBC cancelled it. The network eventually broadcast the remaining unseen episodes after a fan petition and the series developed a good cult following. The show was noted for its realistic portrayal of high school life and resisted many of the gimmicks associated with the genre, such as celebrity 'stunt' casting and cameos. Freaks And Geeks launched the careers of many of its actors and has done very well on DVD since. There has been talk in recent years of a reunion show or spin-off film but the rumours have subsequently been shot down.
