9 Ups & 1 Down From Star Trek: Lower Decks 5.5 — Starbase 80?!
1. Cetacean Observations
Cetacean Operations was the crux of the plot of Starbase 80?! and by extension, even the whales were shocked (and a little green) by the sheer number of cetacean observations. The base itself might as well have been entirely oval, such was the number of eggs in the acronyms TOS and GNDN.
We had wall comms and the boatswain's whistle, plus basically the OG Enterprise bridge. There was a twist-action turbolift, and up the stairs — Acamarians beware-ian — The Captain's Chair was at the arcade. All of Starbase 80's records were, of course, still on tape, knocked over by a Rutherford possessed. I'll leave the uniforms and other garments to Seán, because the collection is mightier than the keyboard.
It was on SB80's promenade (with Deep Space 9 vibes) that we re-met the Acamarians who had been given half the Starbase in an "old negotiation hiccough". The first, and until now only, time we saw the species was in the Star Trek: The Next Generation episode The Vengeance Factor. Contrary to popular belief, the Acamarians won't (all) try to knife you, but they will get you hooked on those arcade games.
The rest, as they say, is immaterial… subordinate (sex) ghosts.
