9 Ups & 1 Down From Star Trek: Lower Decks 5.5 — Starbase 80?!
3. UP — No Sex Ghosts Please, He’s British
Is that…? No, it isn't. But Starbase 80 is more frontier medicine than "frontier medicine". Plus, for the English part of the equation, we're often either super-posh or super-cockney (or the Beatles) for those across the pond. Either way, Doctor Harrison Horseberry was a ruddy hoot. Jolly good show!
They say doctors make the worst patients, but if everyone in Starfleet has to sign off to have sex, he should have at least had the toothbrush talk with himself. The result being not quite an Identity Crisis, but half of one — a hilarious reference to the Tarchannen III DNA parasite that infected then Ensign Geordi La Forge (and others) in 2362.
In the end, as the doctor himself said, you can study "the most advanced medicines in the quadrant," but there really is no substitute for "an old-fashioned bonking" (of the whales). The double meaning of 'bonking' in British English might be a double entendre (via the anaphasic) back to sex and Sub Rosa. This particular green non-corporeal was no Ronin, but simply another Lower Decker who had overreached. No curse or intercourse — sorry, Beverly — just junior "Clem".
