5. Certain Ideas Weren't New

With Davies believing The End of Time was his final story in charge of Doctor Who, he took the opportunity to use some ideas he'd been holding on to for a while.

The Hesperus dogfight sequence was borrowed from an early draft of Planet of the Dead, while the aforementioned Zagitt Zagoo scene – essentially Doctor Who's Mos Eisley cantina – was initially conceived for The Stolen Earth/Journey's End, as was the return of Russell Tovey's Alonso.

Meanwhile, the Doctor revealing to Sylvia that he bought Donna's lottery ticket with money borrowed from her late husband Geoff was a tribute to actor Howard Attfield, who was supposed to return in Series 4 but passed away at the start of production.
