3. Donna's Role Was Originally Smaller

Though Wilfred Mott serves as the companion for these episodes, Catherine Tate's Donna Noble also makes a sizable appearance.

Tate was initially penciled in for a minor cameo during the epilogue, to show that Donna had managed to live a good life despite her tragic exit in Series 4.

Her role was later expanded to include more dialogue and her confrontation with the Masters in the alleyway, before she got her spot in the epilogue as intended.

And that was the last time she ever appeared in Doctor Who... until it was revealed she'd be appearing in the 60th anniversary specials. Turns out it wasn't journey's end after all.
