The largest reveal this season has been that the carvings being done by Garrett and Coulson were actually the diagram of an underground city. The fact that the city included the chamber for the release of the Terrigen Mists was an amazing surprise that really opens up the scope of the show. It looks like Agents Of SHIELD is serving as a lead-in into the concept of the Inhumans. Because the X-Men and even the word "mutant" belong to Fox, Marvel wanted a way to have an entire society or species of super-powered citizens - enter these lesser-known heroes. Like Guardians Of The Galaxy, the Inhumans are not well known outside of comic circles, but if the show can use its influence to grow the concept of what an Inhuman is before the movie is released in 2018, they may be able to have lightening strike twice. At the end of the mid-season finale, fans are introduced to another as-yet unnamed, eyeless Inhuman that has his own Diviner and is informing someone else about the transformation of Raina and Skye. This indicates that these Inhumans will be a factor in the coming episodes. Whether or not they will be antagonists or allies, however, is yet to be seen.
