1. Familiar Faces
As if most Americans would suspect Al Jazeera America to debut with hosts wearing turbans alongside commentators clad in burqas, AJA has made the noticeable effort to line it's foreign brand with friendly, familiar - and most importantly, trustworthy - faces to greet curious new American viewers. It's almost a welcome-back from old friends not seen on mainstream U.S. TV sets in years, like David Shuster or Tony Harris, both affable and decent journalists in their own right, also accompanied by long-time White House correspondent Mike Viqueira, Al Jazeera English is trying its hardest to coax viewers into their broadcasts with familiar voices with non-threatening, proven reporters. The icing on the cake for Al Jazeera America however, is their plucking of long-time CNN host/analyst/economist Ali Velshi to come into the fold and host a prime time evening program. Apparently, Velshi made the move for the chance to be part of a ground-breaking and trendsetting news organization starting at the ground floor. If the first day's coverage is any indication, Velshi may have made the right move coming on board Al Jazeera America.
