American Horror Story: 10 Reasons Asylum Is The Best Season

9. It Packed A Lot In

American Horror Story Asylum
FX

Asylum moved at nearly breakneck speed as they packed a lot (almost too much) into their thirteen weeks. Few shows have so many consecutive stories as Horror Story, but Asylum pushed itself even by those standards.

The relationships of Lana and Wendy, Jude and her patients, Kit and his triangle with Alma and Grace, and this was just the soap opera bit. Lovey-dovey aside, the actual horror of the season came from two serial killers, an escaped Santa, more murders than you could shake a stick at, cannibal monsters, several escapees, a flash forward, and FX even shoehorned in some aliens for good measure. One of the most unusual parts was the strange inclusion of the Anne Frank storyline, which ran over the Halloween episodes. Handled with care it somehow worked, and became oddly memorable overall.

At times it felt like you were watching several different shows at once, but it was all pulled off without overwhelming the senses. Each week's cliffhanger pulled you back in next week to see WTF would happen next.
