Another 20 Nostaglic TV Theme Tunes We Just Can’t Let Go

12. Life On Mars (2006)

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yIMP6-KBSCs In a way, I'm slightly cheating, since Matthew Graham and Tony Jordan's groundbreaking series can hardly be considered nostalgic already, can it? Life On Mars was a police procedural drama with a difference. DCI Sam Tyler, involved in a hit and run, awoke immediately after to find himself in 1973. He was the same person, but everything else was different, involving everything from time travelling Doctor Who conspiracies and Slider style vortex manipulations. In the end, it turned out Sam had in fact been in a coma, his unwillingness of death had led to his revival and his physiological state after the incident had forced his own suicide. But it's not as depressing as it all sounds, it was in fact gripping television, which is never likely to be repeated. Containing a soundtrack featuring some of the best music of the 70s it's the theme tune that gripped is due to it's simple, multi layered, synth led production. It was modern, yet retro, sort of like Sam Tyler himself really. Check it out.

First studied Journalism in Ireland in 2003, returning to Sunderland University on the tenth anniversary of my first studies in the subject to continue towards an MA. Interested in all sorts including WWE, Music, Film, TV and Games. Has travelled around a bit to places like California, Ontario and Mexico and plans to do more of the same soon again. Recently I've been writing pieces on my favourite topics which have included obscure theme music from nostalgic shows, Guns N' Roses and a few other surprises I'll be happy to share in time!
