Another 20 Nostaglic TV Theme Tunes We Just Can’t Let Go

14. The League Of Gentlemen (1999)

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=b6r1S8a1In0 "You can shout out as many jobs as you like, Ross; you're never gonna bloody get one, you worthless dole scum!" I remember being pretty disappointed when I went to see the League of Gentlemen in the cinema for the first time. I brought my then girlfriend, who despised the entire thing €“ although I can't say I blamed her. That being said the TV series of the show was among our favourite pieces of visual entertainment (which has set your mind wandering, I'm sure) and kind of had this creepy 'Coronation Street on crack' vibe to it. Set in the fictional town of Royston Vasey (which I'm told is based on Darlington, although I've no proof of it) the situation comedy was a nod to the eccentricity of rural life in Northern England. A place for everything and everything in it's place, clashing violently with the counter culture of "we don't care and we're going through this red light now" lifestyle that exists in London. Having lived in the North of England for the past few years I have to say I always giggle when I see the glaring references to such favourites as Edward, Tubbs and Pauline's Pens.
