Arrow Season 4: 6 Things The Candidate Got Right (And 4 It Didn't)
2. Got Right - Mayor Oliver Queen
As mentioned, the whole Jessica Danforth running for Mayor thing wasn't great, but it did serve as a plot device for a big moment at the end of the episode. Star City needs a leader, a hero, but one who isn't in the shadows. Clearly Captain Lance's words got through to him, as Oliver decided he is going to run for Mayor. Not only does this bring things further in line with the comics, but it makes the non-Green Arrow side of Oliver even more interesting, and will give him a very focused arc of his own.It makes sense in terms of the hero he wants to be, and the sort of person that Star City needs to lead it (aware I'm veering dangerously close to quoting The Dark Knight here). It also makes the position of Mayor a lot more interesting. While in the past it's been just a pretty dark running joke, and we've never had too much need to become attached to the officials, having Oliver in that position really raises the stakes, and means more people are going to be coming after him than ever before.
NCTJ-qualified journalist. Most definitely not a racing driver. Drink too much tea; eat too much peanut butter; watch too much TV. Sadly only the latter paying off so far.
A mix of wise-old man in a young man's body with a child-like wonder about him and a great otherworldly sensibility.
