Arrow Season 5: 10 Questions We're Asking After 'A Matter Of Trust'
Stephen Amell and Cody Rhodes resume their rivalry, as Arrow continues to show signs of improvement.
Arrow Season 5 is all about going back-to-basics and 'legacy', and so far the show has been making good on its promise.
The first two episodes weren't the show back to its very best, but still a noticeable improvement on a lot of what we saw in Seasons 3 and 4. In particular there was a very clear shift in tone and direction towards what made Arrow great in the first place.
With the first couple of episodes doing some heavy lifting, can the show continue its momentum? That's what episode 3 tries to find out, with a villain-of-the-week instalment, and largely it does the job.
It's not incredible viewing, but is a very solid episode of Arrow, that continues the renewed focus on hand-to-hand combat and cleaning up the streets of Star City. There's a pretty decent villain, some nice work between Team Arrow, fun fight scenes, and also a sense of levity and the show not taking itself too seriously (complete with references to WWE and TMNT).
While neither of the season's major bad guys turned up, there were still plenty of developments on the bigger picture stuff. With most characters getting a big moment, plenty of questions were left behind by A Matter Of Trust.
10. Could We Get More Suicide Squad Cameos?
The major surprise of this episode was the return of Floyd Lawton - aka Deadshot - as played by Michael Rowe. It's not so much that everyone thought he was dead, but rather the belief that Suicide Squad characters were off-limits.
It was a welcome return for him, and his cold words to Dig really forced him to look inwards even more than he was already.
At no point, however, did I suspect he was a hallucination - it's perfectly feasible in TV, especially a show like Arrow, for a character to still be alive/come back from the dead.
The reveal worked really well, especially for Dig's storyline and character, but it was a shame too. Is this the last we can expect to see of Lawton, or any of the Squad for that matter? Or, if the higher-ups are now happy to let it happen, could more members return in future somehow?
