Arrow Season 5: 10 Things You Need To Know

1. Back To Basics & The Theme Of Legacy

Arrow likes to set out the season's key theme(s) before it gets underway, such as last year's being 'magic and mysticism', and for Season 5 it's 'legacy'.

Mostly that will be for Oliver, and him looking back on the past few years now that he's both a vigilante and the Mayor, seeing what he's done and how much is still left to do. The main villain, Prometheus, will also be a result of his legacy. (Legacy just so happens to be the title of the Season 5 premiere as well.)

That fits with an ethos outlined by Stephen Amell, and backed-up by Wendy Mericle, that the show will be going 'back-to-basics' this year, with more hand-to-hand combat, street-level villains, and a focus on the task at hand in Star City. It seems the show may be aware of some of its failings from the past couple of years, and is trying to get back to those highs from the first couple of seasons. Here's hoping it can manage it.
