Arrow Season 7: 4 Ups & 0 Downs From 'Past Sins'
Ups...
4. Back To Earth-2
One of the perks of this week's episode was that, because so much of it was shaped by what happened in the characters' pasts, we got the chance to delve back into their lives, both storyline-wise and visually. In Laurel's case, that meant that we got to take a brief trip to Earth-2, where we saw her unleash her Canary Cry on the man who appeared to be stalking her.
When Earth-2 first reared its head on The Flash, we all fell in love. Not only did it open the Arrowverse up to the multiverse, it was the most aesthetically pleasing world within it. While the Starling City in Black Siren's flashbacks is understandably quite different to the more vibrant Central City we saw on The Flash, there were some neat little quirks that maintained the character of Earth-2.
The whole scene was flipped in order to give off the impression that it was a reflection of our world, maintaining that while things looked the same on the surface there were differences - this was executed expertly by juxtaposing the flashback with a scene of Laurel on Earth-1, a decision that immediately emphasised the mirrored effect. Furthermore, the scene maintained the vintage style that was previously established in The Flash, as both Laurel and Collins wore vibrant clothes suitable of the parallel dimension.
A lot of care was taken to make this scene feel like it could have taken place in the dimension that The Flash created, and the finished product had an authenticity about it that was more than satisfactory.
