Arrow Season 7: 4 Ups & 0 Downs From 'Past Sins'
1. The Backstory We Have Been Waiting For
We've already established the visual perks of seeing Earth-2 on screen once again. However, that scene was simply a precursor to something much greater, as it set the stage for Laurel to finally speak about her life there.
Opening up for the first time ever, she revealed to Felicity that Collins was the man who ran her father off the road. However, the Earth-2 Quentin was only driving because he was picking up his daughter's birthday cake (following a tantrum that she threw) and, as a result, Laurel blamed herself for his death. In that moment, everything about her became so much clearer as it finally gave us an insight into why she became the villainous Black Siren.
Arrow has been on the air for seven years, so it's easy to get used to the content that it produces. But every so often, a scene comes along that just wakes you up in and draws you in in a way that you forgot it had the power to do. That was what this scene did.
From Onalee Hunter Hughes and Tonya Kong's powerful script to David Ramsey's strong direction, not to mention the emotive music playing in the background, this formidable combination allowed both Katie Cassidy and Emily Bett Rickards to truly shine, once again illustrating just how well they work together.
The relationship between Laurel and Felicity is the gift that just keeps on giving and this was an incredibly pivotal moment in the former's redemption arc that we had all been waiting for. But more than that, it was a quietly powerful moment that was so unexpectedly moving that it just blew everything else out of the water. Without a doubt, the best scene of the season. It was breathtaking.
