Arrow Season 7: 7 Ups & 2 Downs From 'Lost Canary'
1. Oliver & Diggle's Pointless Role In The Episode
Playing third-fiddle to the dual-Canary storylines, Oliver and Diggle had their own separate arc in which they attempted to track down the man who murdered Emiko's mother. They would successfully do so and, as a result, discovered that one of the Longbow Hunters was hired by the Ninth Circle's own Dante to do the job.
While that was a somewhat shocking revelation, it didn't really add anything of importance to the episode. As viewers, we already know that Emiko won't back down because she's the leader of the Ninth Circle and, at the very least, all this will accomplish is her disposing of Dante. Thus, this just feels like a faux lead because once Oliver discovers Emiko's true role, he'll be back to square one.
The real issue here is the storyline itself. It didn't accomplish anything of importance and really just felt like the writers were afraid to do an episode without having Oliver and/or Diggle doing something (much like we saw in last season's 'The Dragon'). But the reality is, the episode would have been stronger without this storyline and all it did was rob the more interesting female characters of valuable screen time.
