Better Call Saul: 10 Breaking Bad Cameos That May Yet Pop Up

Max Arciniega was Gus Fring's associate, and possibly more, from his time in Chile. He met his end years before even Better Call Saul had begun, shot in the head by Hector Salamanca. This was shown in a flashback in the fourth season episode of Breaking Bad, Hermanos.

His death was the event that made Gus Fring who he is, the fuel that drove him for two decades. It's because of his murder that he swore revenge on Hector and the rest of the Mexican drug cartel. Although we can assume the nature of their relationship and why he was so important to Gus, there was still plenty left for speculation.

Better Call Saul has been a great opportunity to explore more of Gus' complex, stoic personality thus far and a further flashback of him and Max, though not necessary, wouldn't be entirely out of the question. Better Call Saul is as much the prequel story of Gus as it is of Mike and Saul.
