4. How Soon Will Jimmy Become Saul?
The name of Saul Goodman hasn’t yet been mentioned in the first two seasons, and the question on everyone’s lips is just how soon that will change. With Jimmy having not yet completed his evolution, or devolution, to the shady persona of Saul, viewers are eager to know if the third season will mark a turning point in that journey.
The second season gradually showed us Jimmy’s steady detachment from his family, becoming disillusioned by his father’s naivety and gullible nature, and choosing to be a shark in a family of sheep. The flashbacks of his encounter with Chuck’s wife, Rebecca, and his mother’s passing respectively provided glimpses of his older brother Chuck’s slowly festering jealousy of Jimmy’s charisma and likability, and Jimmy’s perceived undeserved status as the favourite McGill son.
With the only sibling remaining to Jimmy seemingly on the verge of a major confrontation with him, might we about to witness the events that ultimately leave our man McGill cut off permanently from his family, and therefore all ties to his name and identity? If so, it could mark the introduction of an alias we’ve been waiting for Jimmy to assume for the duration of the show.
