Now, were not saying that acting isnt a real job, nor that being a waitress isnt but Penny has been slumming it in a job she hated for years while waiting for her big acting break, something thats never actually come. Seven years is a long time for a show to keep a central character in a position like that, and most other sitcoms would have had her move on long before now: but Pennys struggle to make it has become synonymous with her character, and defined all of her main relationships. Season eight will see her finally get a financially rewarding job, as a sales representative at Bernadettes pharmaceutical firm. Leonard, in particular, has always had a condescending attitude to her dream, whether accidentally belittling her acting career to date or over-enthusiastically supporting her decision to go back to college. Hes also always had money while shes perennially strapped for cash her change in circumstances will make for an interesting swing in the dynamic of their relationship. Meanwhile, Bernadette and Penny develop a miniature cold war in their own friendship, with Bernie being anxious that Penny doesnt embarrass her by screwing up at work and Penny fuming that Bernie talks down to her. The shows producers have promised that season eight will show Penny finding confidence that she didnt know that she had from her new job. Shes also got a new haircut, by the way although we think thats mostly coincidental. What are the things youre most looking forward to about season eight of The Big Bang Theory?
