Big Bang Theory Vs. Friends - 8 Key Battles

8. Janice Litman-Goralnik Vs. Bernadette Rostenkowski-Wolowitz

Why This Match?: Both are famed for their irritating calling cards; their skin-crawl-inducing nasal voices. They are also notorious for exerting dominance over their partners, leaving little doubt about who wears the trousers in their relationships. The Battle: Janice was a regular guest character in Friends right from the first season, with her debut coming in 1.05, The One with the East German Laundry Detergent. In that episode Chandler struggles to break up with Janice, his on-again/off-again girlfriend, setting a precedent that would continue right through to Chandler€™s eventual union with Monica. Even then, she would pop up from time to time to burst Chandler€™s romantic bubble. Bernadette did not make her first Big Bang Theory appearance until the third season in episode 3.05, The Creepy Candy Coating Corollary. She was introduced as Penny€™s colleague at the Cheesecake Factory and was chosen by her workmate to fulfil Leonard€™s request that Penny find Howard a date. Soon afterwards she became a series regular and eventually a full-time cast member, much to the detriment of both the show and the previously brilliant Howard Wolowitz character. Within a couple of episodes Bernadette had managed to suck all humour from Howard like a comedy-hating Death Eater, and soon morphed into the role of his controlling quasi-mother, reducing him to an emasculated man-child. And really, who even buys their relationship anyway? Both might be pint-sized but that is where the things they have in common end. Bernadette finds Howard a curious mixture of disgusting and charming, flip-flopping between the two at the writer€™s convenience as she hops around from genius scientist to oblivious dope every other episode. Winner: Janice. Bernadette is a horribly written character who harms the show, whereas Janice infuriates the viewer but does so in an entertaining way. For that fact, and her classic, oft-repeated €œOh my God!€ line, Janice is the clear victor here. Score: Friends 1-0 The Big Bang Theory
