Black Mirror: 10 Character Fates Worse Than Death

How naive Black Mirror fans were on the first watch of 'Shut Up And Dance'. How many viewers thought Kenny (Alex Lawther) to be an innocent, tortured protagonist to root for? And then the ending happens.

The fact that Kenny's dark and sickening truth was staring audiences in the face makes for an interesting reason for a second watch. But in the context of a first time viewing, what Kenny goes through - and is forced to undergo by his tormentors is brutal.

After his laptop webcam is hacked, Kenny is recorded doing something (what we assume) most teenagers do when they have a lock on their bedroom door and unlimited access to the internet. With the threat of having his little moment exposed to the world, Kenny follows the commands of his blackmailers - which include robbing a bank with a gun, and taking a backpack full of cash to a woods.

Kenny comes face to face with another person "like him", and in front of a hovering drone, they are made to fight to the death for the spectating blackmailers. Just before it all though, Kenny turns a gun on himself and pulls the trigger - choosing death instead.

Realising the gun is empty/a fake, he has no other choice but to go ahead and fight his challenger. Even as he walks away, bloody and no doubt a murderer (as well as a paedophile), Kenny receives a text and realises his tormentors released the video of him masturbating anyway.

We shouldn't feel too bad, Kenny gets exactly what he deserves.
