Black Mirror Season 6: Every Episode Ranked Worst To Best
1. Episode 3 - Beyond The Sea
Oh, yes, now this feels like Black Mirror. An ambitious concept? Check! A luscious sci-fi aesthetic? Check! A gruelling, unforgiving and overall unpleasant narrative full of pain and suffering? You'd better believe it!
This episode centres on a pair of astronauts who are on a an important mission. Although their real bodies are exploring the galaxy, their minds are able to be relocated to Earth, as they have robotic counterparts they can switch into. However, their mission and relationship are forever altered after a devastating personal tragedy.
Everything comes together perfectly in this episode, which really feels like a movie in itself -- especially considering its feature-length runtime. Aaron Paul, Josh Hartnett and Kate Mara deliver exceptional performances, and their uncomfortable relationships often feel as tough to watch as the more violent moments.
It blends suspense, drama, romance and visceral horror to create an experience that's equally engaging and unsettling at the same time. Ultimately, Beyond the Sea is easily the purest "Black Mirror" experience the show has had for a while, seen in its high-tech concept, bleak themes, masterful writing and compelling acting.
