Gene Belcher is played perfectly by Eugene Mirman, as his hilarious line delivery often gets some of the biggest laughs of the show. His tendency to blurt out words with high volume and a lack of consideration is part of the impulsive charm that makes Gene funny.

The only boy of the Belcher family is incredibly immature and somewhat ignorant. Although he has proven himself in many ways to be a surprisingly precocious young lad, he still makes plenty of mistakes and causes awkward hi-jinks. This gives him a strong position in the family as the trouble-maker who - not always of his own accord - makes a mess.

His position lower down the card comes from the fact that his comedy is slightly limited to less witty jokes. While each other member of the family has surprisingly layered humour, Gene tends to deliver gags and delivery a little more on the nose.

This works really well for the show as it's a great way to get easy laughs, but does make him a little less interesting than the rest of the cast.
