Breaking Bad: 5 Major Things To Consider For The Finale

1. Scarface Into Mr. Chips

Breaking Bad Half Measures Vince Gilligan has said his goal with Walter White has been to turn him from Mr. Chips into Scarface. I'd say he's done a pretty good job of that, as Walt steadily turned into a villain and committed several deplorable acts over the course of the series. Scarface was also heavily referenced last season, the most notable time when Walt, Walt Jr. and Holly were watching the climatic finale to the film. The gun Walt acquired is even the same one Tony Montana used to take out the Columbian hitmen. Could this be foreshadowing? There is, however, one thing to consider which never happened to Tony, but is slowly happening to Walt: redemption. Could Scarface be turning back into Mr. Chips? At the start of this season Walt seemed wholly removed and unconcerned with the meth business, seemingly content to run a chain of car washes with his family. Being pulled back into the business due to Hank's discovery, Walt has been on the offensive for most of the season. Granted, this doesn't totally show he's on a redemptive path so it is very important to look at the last couple episodes. Walt's desperate pleading to Jack to spare the life of Hank was one of the noblest things he's done. Remember, Walt offered all the money he earned to spare Hank, the money he always kept for his children. Then at the end of Ozymandias he faked a phone call confession, putting all the blame on him to keep Skyler's hands clean in the eyes of the law. Sure, it wasn't exactly foolproof €“ as Saul pointed out €“ but it was a solid plan. Walt's redemptive moment with Hank was also hindered when he handed Jesse over to Jack, but with one episode left this could change. 'Granite State' moved Walt closer towards redemption as he at first risked his own freedom to talk to Walt Jr., desperately wanting to give his family some money from what he has left. Realizing he had nothing left to live for, he willingly gave himself up and waited for police to show up. That is, until, his wounded ego kicked in after watching Elliot and Gretchen Schwartz slander his name even further. Walt is obviously out for revenge against the Schwartz's and Jack's gang, but when he discovers the state Jesse has been living in, will he save him? Will he turn himself in to save his family if and when he wins? Will the evil man Walter became finally regress back into the family man he tried so hard to be? We'll find out next week if Walter can be redeemed in any way. What issues do you want to see addressed in the Breaking Bad finale? Share your thoughts below in the comments.
