3. The Law
Having chalked up his only arrest due an altercation with a traffic cop, Walter should be relieved that they didnt delve further into his involvement with a multi-million dollar drug ring. Even more so when his DEA brother-in-law ensures he only gets a slap on the wrist along with a touch of mace-in-the-face. However, after several run-ins with the law and two arrests, its Hal who wins this round. His first offence is as the scapegoat of his companys fraudulent activities. He refuses to cooperate with the FBI regarding a dishonest co-worker and as a result, finds himself being framed for insider trading. Its only after the realisation that all the offences occurred on Fridays, of which hed been calling in sick for over the last 15 years, that he is cleared of the charges. Unfortunately, its not long before our subject finds himself in trouble again. In an effort to help his son with his blossoming love life, he accidentally causes a young girl to have an allergic reaction to some chocolate. Hal tries to make amends by offering the girl some candy, albeit from the window of his car as he slowly follows her along with sidewalk. For a second time, the cuffs are slapped upon the apparent "predator" Hal, reported to the cops by a concerned bystander. Even so, some might say that prison would be a doddle compared to what would be waiting at home for him . . . .
