Breaking Bad & Better Call Saul: 10 Characters Killed At The Perfect Time

7. Better Call Saul - Lalo Salamanca

The heartbreaking thing about losing Tony Dalton’s inimitably menacing Lalo Salamanca was the fact that audiences knew his demise was ultimately inevitable.

Much like the events that eventually lead to Gus' end at the hands of Walter, the enigmatic - yet utterly terrifying - Lalo found himself in a position where it was either him or another character whose survival was integral to the show's universe - in this case, Giancarlo Esposito's ruthless kingpin. As Lalo does not appear in the events of Breaking Bad, many fans had put two and two together long before his death on-screen.

With that being said, the show-runners get the absolute maximum out of this phenomenal character before they bury him beneath the super-lab. Lalo's character coupled with Dalton's mesmerizing performance were showered with acclaim, with many critics and fans citing him as one of the greatest villains in television history. This is perhaps all the more remarkable considering the fact that he actually doesn't feature for the majority of Better Call Saul!

While Breaking Bad's canon regrettably decreed that Lalo had to go, the momentous event proved to be the perfect subject matter for the thrilling mid-way point of Better Call Saul's climactic season. Lalo meets his end in a nail-biting scene, shot through the throat by Gus in the pitch blackness of the subterranean laboratory after the latter manages to kill the lights.
