Breaking Bad: Every Major Death Ranked
1. Gustavo Fring
Walter’s greatest antagonist and the centre of perhaps the show’s greatest arc deserves its greatest death. Gus Fring was a man of incredible means and smarts, and accordingly when it came to killing him off, it was going to take something incredible.
Throughout Season Four, Walter tries to get the drop on Gus to no avail. The man is capitalism personified, untethered by human emotion, impeccably cautious in everything he does. It’s not until Walt finds Gus’ one human weakness - an overwhelming loathing of Hector Salamanca - that he’s able to pounce.
The bombing itself has already been discussed, but the aftermath is truly breathtaking. Gus suffers a tremendous explosion - and walks out of the room. For a moment we see only his well preserved left side, and we think he might be truly immortal. Then, we see the ravaged remains of his right.
He straightens his tie, professional to the last, and slumps to the ground, finally conquered. It’s a remarkable send off - bombastic beyond the realms of believability, yes, but no less than a character like Gustavo Fring merited.
