Breaking Bad: Every Major Death Ranked
16. Marco & Leonel Salamanca
If you’re judging the placement of the cousins strictly on the deaths themselves, then Marco’s ending at least is one of the show’s most dramatic moments. After a tussle with Hank Schraeder, the DEA agent gets the upper hand and blows his assailant’s bald head off with a hollow point bullet.
Leonel’s demise is less exciting but no less significant, snuffed in hospital to ensure that Gus Fring’s part in the botched hit remains under wraps.
The cousins never quite worked, though. They arrived at the start of Season Three, when Breaking Bad was still for the most part a fairly restrained, underplayed crime drama. They felt out of place, from their grandiose entrance to their video game baddie costumery.
What’s more, that grandiosity never quite paid off. They made for an imposing visual, but when it comes to a Walter White antagonist, you don’t want to see him going up against brute force. Walter White works best in a battle of wit and will, and to that end Gus was always going to be the more interesting figure.
