Britain's Got Talent: Jonathan & Charlotte Star Sings "Time To Say Goodbye"

Watch 17 year old operatic talent Jonathan Antoine of Jonathan & Charlotte sing the classic by Andrea Bocelli.

Tonight's debut episode of Britain's Got Talent, heralded not only the return of music mogul Simon Cowell, and the wonderful decision to bring in David Walliams as a judge, but also the discovery of a genuine talent in the making. Yes, the revelation of Jonathan Antoine and Charlotte Jaconelli's talent was cliched and terribly manipulated (in yet another Susan Boyle style misdirection), but what can't be underestimated is the quality of the young singers' voices, and in particular the outstanding operatic tones of 17 year old Jonathan. A cursory glance through Youtube will uncover videos of the pair singing together - an ingenious decision if it was the only way to get Jonathan on stage, but also a great one based on the pair's melodic chemistry and the balance that Charlotte brings to his voice - and the one below is arguably the finest example of just what Jonathan can do with his voice. Andrea Bocelli is a personal favourite classical singer, and it was always his rendition of "Time To Say Goodbye" that brought that song to life for me, and to see a 16 year old (as Jonathan was at the time this video was made) bring so much to the song is just jaw-dropping... http://youtu.be/g-F7LT_95E8 That is an astonishing voice. And that noise at the end was the sound of books all over the country being closed on the young man and his partner winning this year's competition. They were certainly the best on show tonight. And because Jonathan and Charlotte come as a pair (despite Simon Cowell's best efforts), here's another early video of the pair singing together: http://youtu.be/0ozjy_Ht3pI It might be premature to say it at this stage, but let's hope that the Nation votes the right way when the lines open on the Final they must surely be part of.
