Buffy The Vampire Slayer: 15 Iconic Moments That Defined the Series

8. Season 4: Buffy The College Student

Most Buffy fans consider Buffy Season 4 to be it's worst season... but then again "worst" is a bit of a harsh word for it. Picking a worst Buffy season is like picking your least favorite chocolate bar from your top 7... they are all so good. That said, Season 4 only makes one appearance on this list despite the season having many, many great episodes. I am not even saying that this episode, the first of season 4 "The Freshman" is the best of the run, but I believe it to be one of the most important turning points for Buffy throughout the season. Shows generally struggle in the forth season, particularly if they were based around a highschool setting in season 1, 2 and 3. This first episode was a real challenge to see if Buffy would succeed and continue to be the great show it had been. Luckily for all of us, this episode was a success and showed that Buffy would thrive in a new setting, and the character would have wonderful new obstacles to overcome. Buffy struggles with adjusting to university life at first like many of us do. She missed the familiarity of her old school life, especially as she had to watch her best friend Willow and her then boyfriend Oz fit in so well and so quickly. Buffy's lack of comfort with her new settings almost cost her her life in this opening episode. She was off her game, and was very almost killed by just another vampire, although in the episode before we had seen her take out a giant monster. Buffy had to quickly learn to adjust and grow up to defeat her enemies, and thankfully for all of us she did. This final scene shows Buffy epically stake a vampire from afar without really looking, which has to be one of the coolest moments from the entire show.
