And speaking of exciting, kicking off the top five is Buffy's very own Faith Lehane, a rogue Slayer called to arms following the death of Kendra Young who finds herself living in Sunnydale and tempted by the dark side of the town's shady mayor.

Portrayed by a scene-stealing Eliza Dushku as an overly adventurous, deeply troubled adrenaline junky who feeds off violence and is frequently annoyed and alienated by her lack of stable relationships, Faith was a mess of a young woman whose criminal behaviour eventually led her to the right-hand of Mayor Wilkins, and to become a mortal enemy of Buffy.

As a big bad, Faith was thrilling to watch when she faced-off against Buffy, and disturbing in the way she found such solace by the side of the mayor. It was unsettling and intimidating to watch, and she stole the show every step of the way.

By the end of the show, however (thanks to a brief stay with Angel), she had become the Slayer she was always meant to be, a leader, heroine and friend who helped Buffy in the final battle of the show and atoned for her past indiscretions. Doesn't get much better than that.
