Buffy The Vampire Slayer: Every Season 2 Episode Ranked

5. Lie To Me

Buffy the Vampire Slayer
Mutant Enemy

As funny as Buffy can be, though, it's always at its best when its full-drama. Lie To Me isn't just one of the show's most underrated episodes, it's also one of its most heartbreaking, and it's a wonder it doesn't get talked about more often.

In the episode, Buffy is shocked to learn her childhood friend Ford has enrolled at the high school, and as the two catch-up she learns he knows about her secret life. Ford looks like he's going to become a new main character, until the episode reveals he wants to become a vampire because he's dying.

The rest of Lie To Me is an episode of double crosses and shock twists, as Spike uses Ford to get to Buffy and Buffy is forced to let Ford die. It's harrowingly but brilliant, and allows Giles to give a speech that perfectly sums up the entire nature of the series.
