Buffy The Vampire Slayer: Every Season Ranked Worst To Best

6. Season One

Buffy the Vampire Slayer
Mutant Enemy

If anything else, Season One has suffered from the passage of time. Debuting in 1997, the first season feels dated compared to everything that came after it - and that can weaken certain episodes.

Season One also has a reduced episode count of 10 episodes compared to the following seasons' usual 22. This means it has fewer episodes to develop an overarching story and fewer chances to really shine.

The Master is a compelling Big Bad, but his look hasn't aged brilliantly either, although it's far better compared to some of the one-off villains in that season - such as a clunky demonic robot or the large puppet she-mantis.

One element that deserves praise is the cast, as everyone managed to hit the ground running and nail their respective characters seemingly from the very beginning. From Giles, to Cordelia, to Buffy herself, the characters save the season from being stuck as a product of its time.
