There are many characters who are loved by the Buffy fanbase, but Spike might be the most popular.
Ironically, this charismatic English vampire was only meant to feature in the second season, but Joss Whedon kept him around for much longer, and thank goodness he did.
As well as being one of the most powerful fighters in the show, Spike’s dialogue is simply superb. He can be impulsive and arrogant one moment and speak wise, philosophical truths the next. Yet the best part of Spike’s dialogue is the humour – he’s probably the funniest character in the entire show.
He also has an incredible arc. Though he starts out as one of three primary villains in season 2, he ends up being a noble yet flawed hero. Watching this transition play out is one of the best parts of the show, and James Marsters was able to capture every aspect of his character’s fascinating evolution.
Regardless of what scene he’s in, Spike is almost always the most entertaining character on screen.
