Buffy The Vampire Slayer: Ranking Every Season Finale From Worst To Best

4. Chosen – Season 7

Season 7 also divides opinion, and one of the most common criticisms is the Potential Slayers' story. Whilst it does start to drag a little in the middle of the season, this arc has a great pay off.

At the end of Chosen, Buffy is no longer the sole Slayer. The huge burden that has weighed her down throughout the show is finally lifted, and it’s great to see our central heroine’s look of relief during the final shot of the episode.

Given this is the conclusion to the show, there’s plenty of great action as well. But it’s the quieter scenes which stand out the most. Before the big battle in the second half, there are a number of beautifully-written conversations in the Summers’ household. The dialogue between Buffy and Spike is particularly good.

The episode isn’t quite perfect, however. Angel feels underused – he’s only featured in the first few minutes. And Anya’s death is also too abrupt. Given she’s one of the main characters, she really should have received a better ending. Still, these are minor quibbles. For the most part, the finale of season 7 excels.
