Buffy The Vampire Slayer: Ranking The Big Bads

4. The First Evil - Season Seven

The final season of Buffy aimed to up the stakes higher than ever before by placing the ageless entity known as the First Evil firmly in the Big Bad position. Said to be the personification of all evil on Earth, the First was a non-corporeal being that could assume the shape of any dead person to influence others into doing its bidding. This bidding, by the way, was to eliminate the Slayer line, leaving the world without a hero to protect it from, well, evil. While the First is an original reinvention of the Devil and a villain of suitable magnitude for last season of the show, it just misses out on being one of the top three due to, as a shapeless creature, there being no single face or a persona to latch on to. Though this was somewhat rectified in the introduction of Firefly's Nathan Fillion at the tail-end of the season as Caleb, a crooked preacher and accolade of the First. Nevertheless, while the First may be the origin of humanity's sins, in the context of this article, we shall have to rename it the Fourth Evil.
