Cobra Kai: 10 Insane Details You Definitely Missed
4. Who's Vidal?
In Season 3, Kreese visits Robby in the juvenile detention centre, hoping to manipulate him into becoming his student. While there, he talks about the time Johnny faced a black-belt called Vidal in his first All Valley. Because the viewer is focusing on the story, it's easy to miss the meaning behind the name, Vidal.
In the original film, we see Johnny defeat Vidal in the semi-final before facing Daniel. But the actor playing him, Darryl Vidal, wasn't just some extra. He was one of only three black belts in the three films and arguably the most skilled fighter in the franchise. He was such a gifted fighter, he served as Pat Morita's stunt double and performed the crane kick in the beach scene.
But that's not all. Vidal is credited as the inventor of the crane kick! He may not be well-known but Vidal is directly responsible for the most iconic moment in the whole film (as well as 1980s cinema).
In case you're wondering, Vidal still does karate. He is a Lv 10 black belt and runs his own karate school in California.
