Cobra Kai: 10 Insane Details You Definitely Missed
2. What Is Robby Reading?
In Season 3, Robby is sent to juvie, where he is pestered by the other inmates. In one scene, Robby is reading William Golding's Lord of the Flies while a group of bullies are tormenting an inmate behind him. In Golding's novel, a group of boys crash-land on an uninhabited island, forcing them to set up their community. When one disciplined kid, Ralph, is elected chief, he gives duties to each of the boys to maintain structure in their society. Unfortunately, one boy called Jack turns the kids against Ralph and elects himself as leader.
Obviously, there are some clear parallels to Golding's novel and Johnny's story. Johnny built Cobra Kai to give himself purpose but Kreese stole the dojo from him and turned his students against him.
But there may be more to it than that. Some viewers believe the title "Lord of the Flies" is a reference to the scene in The Karate Kid, where Mr Miyagi and Daniel try to catch flies with chopsticks. This in-joke mightn't be intentional but the Easter eggs in Cobra Kai are so overelaborate, anything is possible.
