Benjamin Chang was first introduced to Greendale's most notable study group as an abrasive Spanish teacher who referred to himself as El Tigre Chino. He had a habit of intimidating his students with tactics that ineffectively transferred any actual Spanish proficiency. It would later be revealed that, like Jeff Winger, he had bogus credentials. Chang had obtained his job by using no more than Spanish lingo he had learned from Sesame Street. Chang would then go on a several years' journey at Greendale that would take him on a wild ride of living in the school's ventilation system, amassing an army of preteens to kidnap the dean and take over the school, and briefly faking amnesia before admitting his ruse and then paying for his crimes. His story proved the redemptive power of Greendale Community College. Chang assumed another teaching position in the Math department at Greendale as part of a work-release program. The professor who failed over and over because of his own twisted life choices would eventually teach again.
