Community: 10 Best Standalone Episodes

1. Documentary Filmmaking: Redux

Community Jeff
NBC

It's like Hearts of Darkness, but better.

Greendale needs a new commercial, and it's up to the Dean to make it happen. Unfortunately for everyone else, he goes full Stanley Kubrick on the set of The Shining almost immediately, becoming mad with power.

There is not a single moment in Documentary Filmmaking: Redux that doesn't feel like peak Community. Everything about this episode just works like gangbusters. It never once misses its stride, as all the jokes hit their mark with flying colors. Comedy is hard, but this episode makes it look effortless.

You could make an entire top ten list ranking the jokes here alone. From Jeff's identity crisis after having to wear a bald cap for too long to the Dean telling Troy and Britta that he'll segregate the school if they don't get their scene right, the episode is a powerhouse of comedy. It puts on display everything that makes Community great, and for that reason it takes the number one spot.
