Community: 15 Greatest Episodes So Far

14. Intro To Political Science (Season 2, Episode 17)

Community When Greendale learns that Vice President Joe Biden is making a tour of small colleges and they're one of his destinations, Dean Pelton sets about beginning a campaign to nominate and elect a school president. The primary focus of the episode is Annie Edison's attempt to get elected so she can clean up the school, while Jeff Winger joins the race simply to show her she's being naive. He tells her elections are more a popularity contest than people making an informed decision, and to prove it he does not have a platform, simply asking the audience questions such as "What's your favorite color? Because mine is a three-way tie. Red, white, and blue." Another focus of the episode is the famous debate between Leonard Briggs (who changes his last name to Rodriguez to help garner the Hispanic vote) and Magnitude. "Pop pop!" "Thbbbht!" "Pop pop?" "Thbbbht!" In the end, they just elect South Park as school president. Best line: "I would like to withdraw from the race. I fear a political career would cast a negative light on my drug dealing."

13. Advanced Criminal Law (Season 1, Episode 5)

community-criminal-law The first great episode of Community. When Spanish teacher Senor Chang discovers someone in his class has been cheating on the test, he threatens to give everyone a zero if the culprit doesn't step forward. Finally, one of the Greendale 7, Britta Perry, confesses she did it. Then instead of letting her get a zero for cheating, Jeff Winger - a disbarred lawyer - offers to defend her for the Dean, under the claim that she was pressured into confessing to save her classmates. Turns out Greendale has a judging table with built in sound system (wedged in the pool hall, because why not?), so we get treated to a wonderful half hour pastiche of court movies. The best scene features Senor Chang and the psychology professor Ian Duncan having a shouting match in the pool shower room, cleverly lifting Gene Hackman and Dustin Hoffman's confrontation scene in Runaway Jury. Best line: "We are mature! Too mature to sit in a class with a cheating, lying poopface. OK. Time to learn some formal greetings."
