1. Remedial Chaos Theory
All of you who watch Community knew this was coming. There was no question in your minds that this would be number one. As for those of you who may not watch Community, you are doing yourself a disservice by not having seen this. Chris McKenna - this episode's writer - crafted what may be the greatest half hour in network television history. The premise is simple enough, and yet so brilliant. At a house-warming party for Troy and Abed's new apartment, the pizza guy rings the bell on the first floor. When trying to decide who should go downstairs to get it, Jeff proposes a simple solution. Roll a die with each number assigned to a specific person. Your number lands, you get the pizza. The episode then shows us the different timelines created by this action. How the night ends up based on which person was absent for a few moments. The real brilliance in this episode lays in how things are slowly revealed. In the first timeline shown, numerous things happen which make absolutely no sense, but with each passing timeline we learn more that helps us understand the things that confused us earlier. This episode is a labor of love, and was even nominated for a Hugo Award For Best Dramatic Presentation, one of the highest honors for a science fiction writer.
Best line: "You clearly don't know the first thing about defeating trolls!"
