Community Movie - Everything We Know So Far
#Sixseasonsandamovie may finally be a reality!
Even as it was airing, the beloved sitcom/parody of a sitcom Community let its fans know that the plan was always to air six seasons and conclude with a movie. The show spent most of its life on the verge of cancellation, so #sixseasonsandamovie became a battle cry of sorts for fans desperately trying to keep the show on the air.
Initially, Community fell just short of its goal, finally getting the axe after five seasons on NBC. However, Yahoo! Screen, the short lived streaming service from search engine Yahoo so obscure that even if you do a Yahoo search for it you'll need to look on the second page to find anything about it, picked up the show for one final season. Since Yahoo! Screen no longer exists, the 2015 Season 6 finale is the last Community related content to air.
However, five years later, fans have still pushed for Community to fulfill its six seasons and a movie prophecy. With Community gaining a new wave of popularity as it's been added to Netflix, could the pieces finally be in place for a movie?
7. The Cast Are Back Together
In November 2019, back when you still could have a cast reunion, the cast of Community got together publicly for the first time since the show ended in 2015 for an interview with Vulture. Present were Joel McHale, Gillian Jacobs, Danny Pudi, Yvette Nicole Brown, Jim Rash, Ken Jeong, writer Chris McKenna, and show creator Dan Harmon.
One of the biggest revelations of the interview, aside from the existence of a Community cast group chat which is probably just as funny as the show, was that the cast vowed to be a part of the movie if Harmon actually wrote it. Harmon's main concern was that he'd be unable to get the cast back together, saying:
"Then I'd write it and half the people are like 'Meh, I don't wanna do it.'"
After he says this, the entire present cast chimes in to say that they would do the movie if Harmon writes the script. The ball is in Harmon's court: All he has to do is write the script.
However, even after the Vulture special cast committed, Harmon was still on the fence, saying,
"Oh yeah, everyone that's showed up for the Vulture reunion will do the movie? What a shock. You know who I'm talking about. I'm talking about Jonathan Banks. How are we going to get him?"
We know he's not just talking about Jonathan Banks...
