Community: Ranking Every Season Finale Worst To Best
5. Basic Sandwich (Season Five)
A treasure hunt in Greendale? That's not an awful idea, but did we really need the robot love, product placement and psychics? Well, that's certainly debatable.
Season five was the first to lose two central characters - Troy and Pierce - so it was always fighting an uphill battle to remain fun. The concept of this outing and the execution were both decent, but it fell a little flat thanks to some bizarre choices and a lack of good humour.
After the school board decide to sell Greendale to Subway, the "Save Greendale Committee" venture into the reaches of the school to find the old dean, discover buried treasure and keep the college out of Subway's reach.
Community is a very smart show, and that's something that feels pretty lacking here. The humour is entirely surface level, with a crazy old guy in love with a robot and one of the school board members trying to search the characters' minds feeling like a bizarre and unfunny fever dream.
It worked somewhat well and seeing the characters debate their futures (especially Jeff and Britta's "spin-off") had its moments. But overall, this one was yet another missed opportunity.
