Will we ever see another television sitcom quite like Community? More than any other tv sitcom of its era, Community feels like a television show specifically made for and endured in legacy because of its fans.
Famously, NBC would cancel Community after five seasons due to failing ratings but fan outrage at the decision saw Yahoo Screen put faith in renewing it for one more, sixth and final season. Sadly, funds at Yahoo would run out for their new tv venture, leaving no home for Community and it ended for good in 2015.
Today, Community feels somewhat more popular than it ever was during its run. Fans have given the show a resurgence in popularity because of the likes of streaming services such as Hulu, Amazon and Netflix and it would not surprise anyone if Abed’s prophecy in the show of “six seasons and a movie” eventually comes true.
We’re waiting on you Netflix to add a feature length movie to the Community saga. The cast would surely all return and it would be a fitting ending for the tv show that always felt like one the fans wouldn’t let die.
