Daredevil: 10 Characters Who Must Appear In Season 2
3. The Punisher
Although he’s frequently got the short stick in his live-action adaptations, it’s definitely time for the Punisher to make an appearance. As Netflix allows for more adult-oriented content, it means they could do the Punisher far more justice than the briefly considered attempt to give him a show on Fox.
Daredevil producer Steven DeKnight has said that not only would he love to use the Punisher, but also described Matt as being one bad day away from becoming the Punisher. And though DeKnight won’t return as showrunner for season two due to scheduling conflicts, that doesn’t mean Frank Castle couldn’t make an appearance.
In the mainstream Marvel Universe, Frank Castle was an ex-soldier whose family was killed when caught in the crossfire of a gang war while on a picnic. But in the Ultimate Marvel Universe, Castle is a former member of the NYPD whose family was killed by corrupt cops. Given the level of corruption seen in the first season of Daredevil, the Ultimate version could easily work. But so could the soldier take.
Either way, having the Punisher would draw a great contrast between him and Daredevil, showing that there are some lines Matt won’t cross and how he can stop someone who will.
And, perhaps, serve as a backdoor pilot for a Netflix Punisher series.
