3. The Nurse And The Priest
Next to Foggy and Karen, there are two more recurring characters returning in the teaser, with each bringing their own influence and input into the life of one Matt Murdock. First is the Catholic priest, Father Lantom in the comics, who provides the aforementioned speech about guilt to a perpetually troubled Matthew. In Season 1, Murdock informed the priest of his intentions to hurt those who hurt others. Second is Rosario Dawsons Claire Temple, who may or may not be the character known as Night Nurse. Temple is shown in scrubs in a hospital, no doubt the same one in which Frank Castle makes himself known, scattering empty shotgun shells like a hillbilly Easter bunny. The reason why these characters being highlighted in the teaser is important is because of the ramifications they have for the other Marvel Netflix series to come. Claire Temple could become the connective tissue for each of the series; she works in Hells Kitchen, where the teasers for Jessica Jones (which you should definitely be excited for) have shown that Jessicas detective agency is located and has mentioned an ex-boyfriend whose name she lied about (cough Luke Cage cough). Executive Producer/Head of Marvel TV Jeph Loeb has stated that Temple could appear in any of the series, making a whole lot of sense for Temple to be the one who brings these anti-heroes together by stitching them up like a Marvel Superhuman Centipede. Luke Cage has already been confirmed for a Jessica Jones appearance and his base of operations is definitely set in New York (probably Harlem) and in Daredevil Season 1, evidence of Iron First-related mythology also appeared. On the other hand, it could be the priest who is the one element found between each of these series and causes the Defenders to eventually come to be. Whichever character it may be, if the stellar consistency of these series is maintained, we are in the golden age of superhero television.
