David Goyer Bringing Brian Azzarrello's 100 BULLETS To Our T.V. Screens?
Batman Begins screenwriter strikes a deal with Showtime to bring the award-winning DC/Vertigo revenge themed comic book series to the small screen!
(this news hit Monday 20th June but because of all the behind-the-scenes that went into our site changeover we are just getting round to it now. It was too big a story to ignore) Now I bet thats got your attention. Could it be that 100 Bullets is finally getting the TV series treatment it so richly deserves? It would seem so. For those of you who dont know, 100 Bullets is the award-winning DC/Vertigo comic book series written by Brian Azzarello and illustrated by Eduardo Risso that was first published in August 1999 and ran for 100 issues over the next ten years, ending in 2009. The initial plot revolves around the question of whether people would indulge in revenge if they knew they could get away with it. The mysterious Agent Graves approaches the victims of crimes and gives them the chance for revenge without risk of punishment, providing them with a hand gun, the eponymous (and untraceable) 100 bullets and documentation informing the victims of who is responsible for their woe. The series begins with a number of self-contained story lines which eventually intertwine into a sprawling crime saga, as Agent Graves reasons and motives are revealed. So, back to the point, it has been revealed that David Goyerhas been attached by Showtime to write and executive produce a drama series based on the property. Goyer is of course the American screenwriter who co-wrote Batman Begins and the story for The Dark Knight and is also responsible for both Blade and Blade II. So what were we all worried about? There we have four of the best comic book adaptations in recent memory but a little reminder for those of you who are like me and tend to get a little carried away upon hearing news such as this (Ive already got three actors in mind for Agent Graves), David Goyer also wrote the screenplay for the less than decent Blade Trinity and the largely disappointing Jumper. Okay so expectations reeled in, a sense of realism well and truly restored, now all theres left to do is cross our fingers that 100 Bullets the TV series comes to fruition.
