Dexter: 5 Things We Learned From Season 8 Premiere

1. Dexter Is His Own Worst Enemy

Dexter 6 When we get our first glimpse into Dexter's life in the season 8 premiere it seems that everything is much better than when we left him. He seems to be "back on track" I believe he said. During the 6 months since Laguerta's death Dexter has been feeding his dark passenger, raising his son, and even got his bowling team back together. For Dexter it's as if nothing out of the ordinary ever happened last season. With the exception of his strained relationship with Debra he seems happier than ever. This happiness that he has been enjoying can only last for so long. The past few seasons Dexter has gotten sloppy. When the series first started he was careful, calculated, and methodical. As far back as the opening episode of season 5 we have seen him slip and become incredibly impulsive. In this first episode Dexter gave in to his impulses and murdered the suspect Deb seemed to have formed a relationship with. There was no thought of consequence, no thought to making sure he fit the code, Dexter just murdered him. It's sloppy mistakes like this in the past few seasons that have brought Dexter closer and closer to getting caught. If he can't get himself under control he is only going to find himself in more trouble. Dexter has managed to push Deb away and seems to be completely oblivious to the fact that he ruined her life. Regardless of the fact that he is completely responsible for Deb's downfall he doesn't seem to see it that way. On top of that Dexter seems to have a tough time keeping his composure. He lost his temper by yelling at Harrison and later in the episode he almost lost Harrison completely. Not to mention that Dr. Vogel sees right through him. Without a doubt over the past few seasons Dexter has become very careless and that seems to be catching up to him. Out of all the enemies he has faced over the course of 7 seasons so far he is the worst threat to his own well being. Season 8 is going to be a wild ride. Hopefully the show will go out with its best season. Thanks for reading!
