Dexter: Every Main Character Ranked Worst To Best
5. Angel Batista
Dexter's best friend (at least from Angel's perspective) on the job is a friendly, well-meaning but rather mishap-prone detective. Often emotional and impulsive, Batista cares a great deal for those he works with. When we first meet him, he is struggling through a messy divorce. He considers his status as a lonesome, divorced detective to be a cliché. His need for companionship often leads him into trouble with the likes of Lila and undercover vice cops posing as prostitutes.
His love/hate friendship with Quinn becomes a leading storyline for the character in later seasons. The actors bounce off each other well with the scenes between the 2 ranging from amusing to dramatic. Similar to Quinn, it's implied that he's fully aware of Dexter's self-defence lie in the final episode. Given the detestable nature of the Brain Surgeon killer and the harm he has done to Debra, Batista decides to turn a blind eye to his pal's actions. This is one of the few moments Batista plays outside the rules. It serves as a final reminder of his protective, caring nature towards his colleagues.
David Zayas brings Batista to life with a well-fitting everyman charm that keeps the character sympathetic and engaging throughout the series.
